Success Story
Double the Donors - Clean Water Services Wows Earth Share
Clean Water Services just keeps caring for our environment -- the number of employees giving to Earth Share doubled this year. This outstanding participation builds on the nearly $19,000 donated to Earth Share since Clean Water Services became a business partner in 2002. Overall, Clean Water Services employees gave 65% more to Earth Share, United Way and Care to Share this year than they did in 2007.
These increases are thanks to the leadership of Mark Poling, Wastewater Treatment Department Director; the dedication of Dawn Beaman, Finance Department; and the creativity of Ann-Marie Ramsey, Human Resources Department. Mark, Dawn and Ann-Marie recognized the importance of planning and personal touch. Here's their game plan:
- Donating with ease: Many Clean Water Services employees are working hard on the road or at the wastewater treatment plants. To make donating faster and easier, pledge forms were pre-labeled with the employee’s information. Each employee received a pledge form packet personally from Mark, Dawn or Ann-Marie at their regular staff meeting. Employees only had to fill in how much they wanted to contribute and to what charities. How easy is that?!
- Personal touch: Mark Poling and Earth Share and other charity reps traveled to the four sites to personally meet and greet employees during their regularly scheduled meetings. Mark, Earth Share and United Way gave a small presentation and answered questions. Esther Lev, Executive Director of The Wetlands Conservancy (an Earth Share member) spoke at the Merlo Station site. She discussed the long history of partnership between her organization and Clean Water Services and made an important connection on how Earth Share, The Wetlands Conservancy and Clean Water Services work together to help the environment and keep people healthy.
- Tasty treats: Never doubt the power of coffee and donuts. At each 7 am presentation, Mark came prepared with a box of donuts! The crew appreciated a full stomach before each meeting.
- Management support, fun and prizes: In the spirit of fun, the leadership team brought baby photos for a Baby Face Contest. Employees got a kick out of seeing their bosses’ childhood photos, and winners received prizes.
