Thank You PGE Volunteers!!
April 16, 2011On Saturday, April 16th, 2011, Portland General Electric employees, their families and friends helped The Wetlands Conservancy clean-up the Wetlands Conservancy’s Cedar Mill Preserve. The event was super productive, with volunteers diligently working through the morning. The Wetlands Conservancy is so thankful for all that was accomplished. Accomplishments for the day include the removal of hundreds of PVC pipes and rigid black plastic plant guards, an old shed that had collapsed and was all but forgotten and garbage and recyclables.
PGE volunteers removed 270 pounds of garbage, 250 pounds of scrap metal, 200 pounds of plastics and 25 pounds of glass from the wetland. Wow! I am happy to report that more than 75% of the material removed from the wetland was recycled.
In addition to the impressive amount of garbage removed from the 15 acre preserve, large debris was removed from the channel of North Johnson Creek.
Highlights included volunteers muddy from head to toe, water over the boots, nesting birds, tree frogs stuck in the SOLV van, a ride in the back of a pick-up (just like the good ole days) and the pure satisfaction of a hard day’s work!
On behalf of the Wetlands Conservancy….THANK YOU for joining us for the PGE/SOLV-IT work party in honor of Earth Day and for helping clean-up the Cedar Mill Preserve in Beaverton, Oregon. I hope you will join me again for work days at Cedar Mill or any of our other wetland preserves.
Sincerely,
Jennifer (jennifers@wetlandsconservancy.org)
