Earthshare Volunteers Do Make a Difference
In the past six months The Wetlands Conservancy has hosted more than 13 work parties, with over 100 volunteers! Thanks to volunteers from Earthshare and The Wetlands Conservancy, 10,000 bare root native wetland trees, shrubs and emergent wetland plants, plus 5000 willow and dogwood cuttings have been planted. Another 1500 herbs including 700 individual Sidalcea nelsoniana, the endangered Nelson's checker-mallow, have been planted. Working with US Fish and Wildlife Service we planted this endangered species which was rescued from a development site. The Wetlands Conservancy's Hedges Creek Preserve in Tualatin, provides some of the best habitat to re-establish these plants. This heroic effort is part of on-going restoration and maintenance projects on over 35 aces of wetlands in the Tualatin Basin.
