Program meeting: Oregon’s Native Orchids. Oregon has over 30 native orchids! Join Chris Howard from the Oregon Orchid Society as he presents in situ photographs from his personal collection and the Oregon Orchid Society. You’ll discover what makes these treasures of our forests unique in the world of orchids. Meeting location: Metro building at 600 NE Grand Ave., Portland. Enter the building at the south end of the upper plaza on Irving St. (not the door on 600 NE Grand Ave.). An attendant will let you in and direct you to the meeting room upstairs. Field Trip: Catherine Creek. The premiere early flower spot in the Gorge, where we will search for grass widows, yellow bells, prairie stars, toothworts, several desert parsleys, early glacier lilies and others. We’ll try a different route than in years past with easy walking to 5 miles and 800 ft. elevation gain. Drive is 120 miles round trip. Field Trip: McCord Creek Early flowers at McCord Creek include Synthyris, Douglasia, and Oemleria. Driving is about 60 miles round trip. This is an easy hike of about 3 miles round trip with 500 feet elevation gain. Leave at 9 am; call leaders for meeting location: Jan and Dave Dobak, 503-248-9242.
