Friends' Hike Shepherds assist Hike Leaders in
directing hikes on Friends' Spring and Fall Hiking Programs, as well as
educating hikers and monitoring hike safety. It's a great way to
volunteer your time, experience the Gorge, and prepare to become a hike
leader in Fall 2010 or beyond.

CPR/First Aid for the Trail
Location to be determined

Services (EMS), accessing EMS, scene safety, isolation
of body substances, recognition and first response of emergency
management care. The discounted price for this class is $27 (normally $60). Click here to register.
March 6th & 7th
Wilderness First Aid / When Help is Delayed
Location to be determined
This 16-hour course, covered over two days, is for those who work,
live or play in remote areas away from the usual EMS services. Even though
emergency workers near these areas may be trained to search for and
rescue those in need, there may be a delay in the notification of
assistance, the time required to get to the patient, or in moving the
patient to more advanced treatment. It expands the concepts in "First Aid:
When Help is Delayed" to give more detailed information and hands-on skills
practice. Basic first aid skills are covered, making this course appropriate
for anyone regardless of experience level. A minimum age of 15 is
recommended for participants due to the serious nature of the course and
scenarios. Both days must be attended. This two-day course is being offered to Friends' volunteers for $85 (normally $155) and includes The Field Guide of Wilderness & Rescue Medicine, For outdoor professional and rescue specialists, by Jim Morrissey, EMT-P, WEMT.
Registration is required for all trainings. For more information, please contact Outdoor Programs Coordinator Renee Tkach. Thanks for your involvement!
