Re:think Business Certification!

A New BRING Program

BRING Recycling's UsedNews, Winter 2010 edition

Savvy business owners make sure that they hire productive employees, and very few would tolerate an employee that stood around doing nothing. Resources going in and out of a business should be thought of in just the same way. Don’t tolerate needless expense! If you handle resources inefficiently, you use more than you need and spend more than you need.

BRING’s new business program, Re:think, slated to start helping clients by late March, will help you find ways to trim waste, whether it’s waste going into a garbage can that could be recycled, or unnecessary energy, water or materials use. There’s a whole ton of opportunity to save money! In 2008 alone over 500,000 tons of waste was generated in Lane County, nearly two-thirds from businesses and institutions. Commercial accounts have considerably lower recycling rates than households, even though recycling is free or very low cost. So what gives?

Most businesses in our area are small to medium in size (1-50 employees) and lack the resources necessary to watch their waste lines, especially in tough economic times. That’s where BRING comes in. By providing hands-on assistance, referrals and advice, we’ll help businesses find the most cost effective ways to reduce waste in operations. These are often easy-to-implement strategies that businesses can use to reduce costs, and they don’t require new technologies or major investments! Re:think will remove the barriers that prevent many businesses from doing more with less. Best of all, the service is free and those that meet certification criteria will receive public recognition and positive PR throughout the community for their efforts.

BRING’s Re:think Business Certification Program fills an urgent, unmet need. An efficient business and a clean environment go hand in hand, supporting our economy and long-term sustainability.
