Most Portlanders will tell you they want pesticides banned from parks. They want native plants in greenspaces where children, pets and wildlife can roam safely. But when it's time to set aside chemical sprays such as Roundup and spend hours weeding, only a handful of residents stand ready with rakes and shovels. June 13: Volunteer for Sunday Parkways - Portland's five car-free fun days!
Where: North, NE, NW, East, and SE Portland (Portland Area)
For whom: Bicycle Transportation Alliance Seeking: Groups and Individuals Sunday Parkways gives Portlanders a chance to get out and be active right in their own neighborhood. Participants walk, bike, roll, run, stroll, and skate along the route to activities in the parks as well as to nearby shops and businesses in the vicinity. Learn more.
August 21: Run for the River 5K Fun Run
Where: Tom McCall Waterfront Park (Portland Area)
For whom: The Freshwater Trust Seeking: Groups and Individuals Join us in making a difference for Oregon's youth by becoming volunteering The Freshwater Trust's Run for the River, a 5k fun run to be held on August 22, 2010 in downtown Portland in conjunction with the Portland Triathlon, the greenest triathlon in the country, and RiverFest 2010. Run for the River will involve hundreds of active Portlanders, their families and supporters of triathlon athletes. Learn more.
