Say Cheeeeese!
Help us inspire new donors through pictures

The orange starfish you spied on at Lincoln City, your tot biking in downtown Portland, the view of the the Gorge from your hike. These are just a handful of reasons why so many are inspired to contribute to EarthShare Oregon.

E-mail us a picture of you, your family or friends in an Oregon natural place you've taken. Tell us why it inspires you and why you give through EarthShare.

EarthShare will feature your photos in our e-newsletters and print publications with full credits.

This is me with my dog Cricket, taken in August 2009 in Bend. What I love about Oregon is how quickly you can travel from one climate to another. I also really enjoy living in a state where my dog is welcome just about everywhere.

Learn the Real Story of Water
From Surfrider Foundation

Water is vital to every aspect of life, every day: you drink it, bathe in it, use it to cook and clean and to water your garden. We all consume it, but how many of us really know how our water reaches us and the costs involved -- financial and environmental?

According to the EPA, the U.S. annually spends more than "$4 billion for energy to run drinking water and wastewater utilities." In California alone, nearly 20% of the state's energy demand is spent moving or treating water.

EarthShare member Surfrider Foundation's latest campaign, Know Your H20, explores the link between freshwater management issues and the impact on our oceans, waves, and beaches, and discusses how we can help repair the broken water management cycle.

The event kicks off May 1, ends May 31, and culminates with a special Walk + Bike to Baseball celebration event at PGE Park in Portland on June 11. Event participants and winners will be recognized on field, and the overall winner will throw out the first pitch of the Beavers baseball game.

Coho Salmon Return to the Tualatin River
From Tualatin Riverkeepers

In October, Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife counted 25,000 Coho salmon migrating above Willamette Falls; the most ever counted using the fish ladder.  It is believed that Coho did not use the upper Willamette until the locks were constructed in 1873.  Winter Steelhead trout and Chinook salmon are able to migrate upstream over the falls in high water.  To track where the Coho were spawning, biologists inserted radio transmitters into 160 fish at the fish ladder.  Tualatin Riverkeepers have reported observing Coho spawning in Scogggins Creek, Baker Creek and in the Tualatin River above Cherry Grove.
