 Before she could even walk on her own, I took my daughter for a hike on the Oak Island Nature Trail on Sauvie Island. She held my hand and toddled down the train, so happy to be outside in the summer sun. I can't imagine a better way to spend an afternoon than wandering on a trail with my family at one of Oregon's special places.
I also can't imagine how close we came to losing places like Oak Island Nature Trail. Just a few decades ago, more than 4,000 acres of Sauvie Island was slated to be dived up into five-acre parcels for homebuilding.... 2009 Annual Report (.pdf) continue>

Cahuenga Peak protected from development World-famous Hollywood Sign saved From The Trust for Public Land

Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest: Nation's largest carbon cache From Siskiyou Project and The Wilderness Society
An analysis conducted by The Wilderness Society of all national forests in the United States showed that the top 10 for carbon storage are in the Pacific Northwest, six of them in Oregon, and the number one being our own Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest. The report explains the importance of carbon sequestration in the struggle to moderate climate change.

Solar Oregon's third annual Goal Net Zero (GNZ) Tour features four Portland homes
reaching for Net Zero Energy use. Learn from the workshop and guided tour what can be achieved with deep energy retrofits and new construction.
