Campaigners' Edition - January 2009
Double the Donors -
Clean Water Services Wows Earth Share
Clean Water Services celebrates the environment with twice the number of employees giving to Earth Share. Those gifts totaled to a more than 47% increase in donations. This year's outstanding participation adds to the nearly $19,000 donated to Earth Share since CWS became a business partner in 2002. Overall, CWS employees gave 65% more to Earth Share, United Way and Care to Share this Year.
These increases is due to the leadership of Mark Poling, Wastewater Treatment Department Director; the dedication of Dawn Beaman, Finance Department; and the creativity of Ann-Marie Ramsey, Human Resources Department. Mark, Dawn and Ann-Marie recognized the importance of planning and personal touch. Learn about their game plan>
Recycling E-waste is now Free and Easier
Starting January 1, 2009, the Oregon Electronics Recycling Program will take effect. Thanks to the hard work of some 20 Earth Share members along side other environmental groups, anyone can bring seven or fewer computers (desktops and laptops), monitors and TVs at a time to participating Oregon E-Cycles collectors for free recycling. There's one caveat, the program does not provide free recycling of keyboards, mice, speakers, printers, scanners or other types of electronics or appliances.
Had enough snow and ice? Sidewalk salt can harm your lawn and garden; it also runs off into storm sewers and can contaminate rivers and streams. Remove ice manually with a chopper or shovel, scatter sand or ashes for traction, or use a gentler chemical like calcium chloride.
