EarthShare Oregon reaches its 20-year anniversary!

Oregon’s only nonprofit environmental federation celebrates 20 years

EarthShare Oregon’s 20th anniversary ushers in new brand name and logo

In February 1989, a group of 13 conservation groups officially launched a small nonprofit called the Environmental Federation of Oregon. The idea was to offer Oregonians an easy way to care for the environment – by giving at their workplaces.  In 2001, Environmental Federation of Oregon became Earth Share of Oregon, part of a national network of environmental federations.

Twenty years later, EarthShare is still Oregon’s only nonprofit environmental federation.

However, many other things have changed:

  • Now, EarthShare Oregon supports 70 environmental groups instead of just 13.
  • It raises more than $800,000 a year, instead of the few thousand dollars raised in 1989.
  • It funds projects around the state and around the world.
  • It’s reaching more than 155,000 employees a year, in more than 100 Oregon employers.
  • It has raised more than $10 million since its inception.

Most importantly, EarthShare Oregon is actively engaging thousands of Oregonians in giving, volunteering, and sharing a responsibility for Oregon’s (and our planet’s) environmental legacy.

“Oregonians know we still have to care for our environment, even if the economy is struggling,” said Trudy Toliver, EarthShare Oregon’s executive director. “Because of this, EarthShare Oregon’s 2008 donations held steady and even grew a little bit.”

EarthShare Oregon is celebrating this 20-year milestone with a new logo and brand:

The accomplishments of our member organizations are even more impressive.
